This journey is at a comfortable ‘walk and talk’ level, or as our journeys to Losinj have been described ‘walk, talk and swim’.  It will involve up to 5 hours of walking on each of the three walking days but with very comfortable overnight stops on each night.  October in the Adriatic is typically a time of warm days and beautifully quiet – a perfect antidote to city life and the approach of winter in Northern Europe.  Nights will be cool with temperatures down to around 12’C and as always there is the chance of rainstorms.  The sea temperature should be around 20’C so it will still be swimmable.

Our base camp will be in luxurious safari tents and camp beds on the edge of Cikat bay.  We will then make a 3 day journey around the southern part of the island including overnight stays in the colourful old town of Veli Losinj and the small island of Ilovik with its lovely sandy beaches, before returning to Cikat bay.

Day 1 (Tue) – You will be picked up from Pula airport in Croatia and driven as a group to our base camp at Losinj Glamping by Cikat Bay, on Losinj island. This will include a short 30 minute ferry journey.  We will cook together and have time to savour the sea, and coastline.

Day 2 (Wed) -We will walk initially along the coastline next to the sea before heading inland and uphill to reach the isolated chapel of St Ivan at 240m altitude.  This will give us good views of both sides of the island before we descend east into the charming village of Veli Losinj.  The landscape here is groves of olive trees and endless stone walls that reflect 2000 years of farming and care.  We will stay at the well equipped Youth Hostel.  Walking Time (excluding stops) – 4 hours.

Day 3 (Thu) – We will walk south from Veli Losinj along the footpath that follows the coastline.  We have a choice of paths but we will end up at the southern most point of Losinj at Mrtvaska.  From here we will take a ferry boat for the short crossing to Ilovik island. Ilovik is a small quiet island with lovely sandy beaches 30 minutes walk from the main village.  We will overnight in a shared apartment.  Walking Time – around 4 hours to the ferry, and then a 60 minute round journey on Ilovik for people who would like to visit the beach.

Day 4 (Fri) – We will take the ferry back to Losinj and start walking back to our base camp at Cikat Bay.  We can either follow the paths around the island or the north-south ridgeline which gives great views.  We will finish the day back at the lovely safari tents and pine forests of Cikat bay.  Walking Time – about 4-5 hours of walking, and 250m of ascent if we follow the ridgeline.

Day 5 (Sat) – We will have a relaxed final morning and leave around midday.  On the drive out we will stop at the village and harbour of Osor, with its impressive Roman streets and 2000 years of history.  After a final ferry crossing back to the mainland we will return to Pula and the airport for late afternoon.  The exact time will depend on everyone’s flight connections.
